Delivering Results – Cleaning
We are very aware that the Gamechangers are harvesting food. Every effort has been made to ensure that keeping the machine clean requires the minimum of effort.
In order to keep the Gamechangers clean, the following design features have been utilised:
a) The bottom of the Gamechangers is basically a big bin. If any dirt, stalk or compost drops in the Gamechanger, 99.9% will end up in the bin. Flat surfaces have been angled as much as possible to ensure any debris doesn’t accumulate on the Gamechangers.
b) We have greatly improved access to any areas that require a quick wipe down with a door beside the blade area.
c) Panels can be easily removed, without tools so they can be easily washed with a pressure washer that would be used on the lift and bin system.
d) The weighing module uses cords rather than a belt to avoid the grinding in of debris into the belt. Any small amounts of dirt can drop through the cords into the bin. We made these changes because of our cleaning experience.
e) Some parts can be easily removed so they can be steeped in hot water.
f) The picking Arm can be removed for external cleaning but we have alternative cleaning options using power brushes for doing intermediate cleaning for a few minutes in the middle of the day.
g) There is a programmable cleaning option for the suckers. Clean suckers will ensure a greater pickup rate and plays its part in presentation and speed.
h) When moving the Gamechangers from room to room we can lightly spray the Gamechangers with NutriSoap Quick Dry, an ethanol-based product from Nutigain Ltd (www.nutrigain.com). This is used to prevent the spread of disease normally transferred from 3rd flushes to 1st flushes.
i) We have used a small portable blower to quickly blow off any dirt or debris into the bin. This seems one of the best ways to reduce cleaning.
j) The bin is easily emptied with the opening of a flap and the dirt drops into a container below. The bin can be emptied even when the Gamechangers are in operation.
k) The large area shelves at the top of the Gamechangers are used to store punnets and accessories, but they are also used to ensure no dirt can access the Gamechangers from above. These are easily wiped clean with holes at the corners to allow the dirt to drop down at the corners.
l) The stainless-steel finish ensures the Gamechangers look good even after several years.
Our experience has shown us that pickers admit that cleaning is not onerous. Many have been surprised at how clean the machine remains even after extensive use.
The Gamechanger is the only viable harvesting solution for existing mushroom farms.
