Delivering Results – Battery Power
The Gamechangers were designed to be battery powered with low power consumption and with easy implementation of numerous units across many different mushroom farms in many parts of the world. There are significant advantages in what the Mushroom Machine Company Ltd have done compared to other equipment suppliers.
The main points of using our battery strategy on the Gamechangers and Lifts are listed below along with some important details:
a) The Gamechanger and Lift system operate off the same battery source. New batteries can power both for around 12 hours. However, 6-8 hours is really the target area for changing as it extends battery life if batteries are not totally discharged.
b) With batteries we have no need to introduce infrastructure or utilities into the mushroom harvesting room. This means Gamechangers can be in working within an hour of arriving on a farm in many cases.
c) The batteries can be charged from any power point outside the Harvesting Room.
d) Using removeable battery modules, the Gamechangers and Lifts can still continue to operate while the spare battery unit is being charged. This will accommodate days when the Gamechanger is needed for extended periods or when shift picking is involved.
e) The battery module is 2 x 12 Volt 60Ah AGM batteries configured to produce 24 Volts and is contained on a trolley with wheels, so no lifting is required. Each module has an Anderson connector to allow the easy swapping of battery modules.
f) To keep batteries in tip top shape you need to start to charge batteries very soon after discharge.
g) It is detrimental to battery life if you totally discharge batteries. It is better to use batteries and swap them before total discharge.
h) Batteries operate better if the battery charge time is spread over a longer time. Turbo charging the batteries does have a longer-term detrimental effect on batteries. Using Smart Chargers, we can help extend the battery life as the battery is charged in the best way to extend life.
i) Battery Modules now can be hot swapped (changed while running) and we now have the option to run the Gamechanger and Lift on 1 or 2 battery modules as best suits your picker support system.
j) AGM batteries are a common and less expensive means of power than Lithium batteries. They do allow a large number of charges and discharges and they are leak-proof as needed in the harvesting Room. They also are readily available worldwide.
k) Putting a support system in place where batteries are changed probably during tea breaks could mean that batteries are systematically changed every 4 / 6 / 8 hours whether the batteries actually need to be changed or not. This is the ideal solution and ensures best use of resources.
The way our system has been designed allows us to operate the Gamechangers over extended time, or even over shifts, without having to stop when charging is required. It also means we have the flexibility to adapt when mistakes are made, like someone forgetting to connect the battery charger to the battery. We have total flexibility and can deliver results all the time with our battery power.
The Gamechanger is the only viable harvesting solution for existing mushroom farms.
