Delivering Results – Weighing Accuracy
One of the most essential functions of the Gamechanger Pro is to accurately weigh the mushrooms in the container. The weight required and setup can be programmed into the Gamechanger so it doesn’t need to be entered each time for all the different product codes picked.
The Gamechanger Pros computer continually weighs the product in order to calculate how many mushrooms are required to reach the required weight. The average weight of the mushrooms picked is calculated and the information is used by the program so it knows how many mushrooms to pick to exceed the required weight. You can see where the Gamechanger picks up only 1 or 2 mushrooms and that is normally in order to get the correct weight.
In order to improve weighing accuracy, we actually wait for a longer period to collect the weight when the container is nearly full. This is helpful to avoid variations due to vibrations when mushrooms are dropped. With larger trays we see more vibrations in the weighing modules. To offset this effect, we have introduced weight sampling where instead of taking 1 weight at 1 point in time it takes several weights and then divides by the number of samples.
We have 2 weighing modules and have increased the weighing modules support to make it more rigid. As the Gamechanger Pro now handles quite large trays we have built in additional software to ensure weighing accuracy even when the tray is being moved several times before being ejected.
Weight giveaway will basically be half the weight of the average mushroom. For example if the average weight of the mushroom is 18 grams the product giveaway will be around 9 grams per container. The accurate stalk cutting additional weight will more than compensate for any giveaway.
Having exact weights should reduce hassle in the packing room. The packing line can be run faster, the time correcting incorrect weights is eliminated, the damage caused by correcting weights later has also been reduced and so having exact weights has a lot of advantages.
Accurate collection of exact weight data allows us to accurately measure performance, allowing us to change and adapt, work out what works and what doesn’t work. We can now make decisions based on facts rather than inaccurate feelings. This data can be accessed on screen, on a Android device using Bluetooth or can be transmitted by wireless to a central data source.
