Delivering Results – Ease of Implementation
The Gamechanger Punnet is solely used for filling punnets, whereas the Gamechanger Pro will work with punnets, trays, boxes and punnets arranged inside trays.
The Gamechangers can now be fully integrated into a Floor Supported Articulated Machine Lift that enhances all aspects of picking mushrooms so that picking performance and even yield is improved.
Great attention has been given to making the Gamechangers easy to operate, easy to move from room to room, they will cater for basically any type of punnet box or tray arrangement, they are simple to clean and will quickly double picking rates within a short period of time.
We can normally have a machine in the shed within an hour of arriving on a farm. This is much easier with the Floor supported Lift.
The Gamechanger Pro can be setup with the required weights and punnet arrangements in less than 5 minutes. It also caters for numerous languages and messages/warnings can be provided in text and spoken in the languages selected.
The lift controls are easy. Up, down, forward & back with a speed control knob.
The lift has been designed with more space to handle an increase number of empty and full trays and shelving space for punnets and other items required. There is also enough space for the picker to operate at maximum performance even on the lowest shelf.
It has been found that it takes about 5 days for pickers to get self sufficient on the Gamechanger and the picking speed starts to increase in the following 5 days. We have seen a doubling of picking speeds within 10 days, but sometimes it takes a little longer. Speeds have often continued to increase by about 5 kgs per hour even in the following weeks as the technique of crop grazing and 2 handed picking becomes embedded into the picking routine.
In the first few weeks attention has to be paid to the area being picked as doubling the picking rates requires at least a doubling of the area picked. Support services need to be monitored and stepped up to match the increased product picked. The pickers need to be monitored to ensure they are picking correctly with 2 hands (3 mushrooms in one hand and 2 in the other) and not transferring mushrooms from one hand to the other. Ensuring the continual movement of the lifts is an important factor as well as ensuring they are picking only the bigger mushrooms in the first pass before going onto smaller mushrooms. This should increase yield and significantly reduce wastage due to quality issues.
Renumeration is always important and I feel that a daily bonus for “running the machine” is a good way to get initial acceptance. This will not be necessary after a few months but it will incentivise better compliance in the initial stages. We have found it has often been easier to start new pickers on the Gamechanger so they get to a reasonable picking within a short time.
It has taken a while to learn the best ways to implement our low risk, reliable, high productivity Gamechanger. We now have developed a sure, reliable system to get picker results.
